Lee Ving Brings Punk Rock To 2020

FEAR - HAVE A BEER WITH FEAR

DETROIT - Lee Ving and Derf Scratch created quite a ruckus when they created the band FEAR. On a recent commercial for Gibson guitars, Lee Ving struggles to find the perfect words for his satisfaction for the company. He started with a 14 man blues band. Lee would work as a singer and harmonica player and open up for Cream, Junior Wells, and Buddy Guy. By the time Punk Rock rolled around Lee Ving was ready and played a Gibson Les Paul with gold pickups. Ving says it was the perfect instrument for Punk and said: "I was in hog heaven -- it was God's gift to rock and roll".

Lee Ving met up with Def Scratch and they created a single in 1977. They picked up two more players, Philo Cramer and Spit Stix. The new punk rock band arrived in the Los Angeles scene just in time for a West Coast Punk wave. Their music was comedic and had shock value. They had a revolting subject matter and were considered homophobic. They were featured on a low budget film "Decline of the Western Civilization" by Penelope Spheris. In the film, Lee Ving and Def Scratch antagonize an audience to the point of a near riot. One man in the audience is kicked in the hard in the face.

The band also attracted comedian John Belushi as a fan and he arranged them to appear on Saturday Night Live. Lee Ving flew fans were slam danced on live television in 30 Rock. They raised such chaos that NBC refused to re-air the program. The original broadcast was cut in half and went straight to commercial. Fear, would create a song for the film "Neighbors" starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

FEAR: The Album - contained songs about city violence, filth, and war. Fear became a staple in the American Punk Rock community and had a followup album "Have A Beer With Fear". Today the band is enjoying a classic rock presence in the Alternative Rock community and has been invited to play at Chicago Riot Fest. They have a line of beer mugs, t-shirts, limited edition vinyl, and Lee Ving has his own Bobblehead for sale. In many ways, the band is bigger than ever.
