CHICAGO - Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne fame has passed away at age 52 from complications of Corona Virus. He was first diagnosed with the disease in early March, 2020. I first came across the band in 1997 and later caught up with them at the Metro In Chicago where they headlined, (Sloan opened for them). The band was already getting a lot of airplay in the Chicago market with the notable hit, “Sick Day”. The band was easy on the ears and picked up a favorable audience alongside the alternative bands of the day that included The Lemonheads, The Dandy Warhols and Oasis.
Schlesinger had an active career that included working with Ivy while recording with Fountains of Wayne. Adam also had an active career writing music for films most notably, “That Thing You Do” where he contributed to the title track. He plays in a video here with Mike Viola from the Candy Butchers. They explain the opening riff on that tune was inspired directly from the Pixies.
LET IT ROCK !!
